Shakespeare’s Globe
revives Romeo and Juliet. The most famous love story will be on stage
from the 29th April 2009 as part of the theatre's 2009
Young Hearts season. It is directed by Dominic
Dromgoole. Adetomiwa Edun plays Romeo and Elle Kendrick, who plays
Juliet, has been recently seen as Anne Frank in the BBC book’s
adaptation.
The drama takes place in two Italian renaissance cities, Verona and Mantua. It tells the story of two young lovers Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet belonged to rival families. The Montagues and the Capulets, infact, have been feuding with each other for years. Romeo and Juliet fall hopelessly in love despite the fact that Juliet is already promised to another man in marriage. However, any plans for their future happiness are viciously destroyed by reborn violence between the two families. While the adults remain foolishly preoccupied with their own affairs, among their children a veiled tragedy begins to unfold.
Romeo and Juliet’s heartbreaking tale combines sword fighting, disguise, misunderstanding, tragedy, humour, and some of the most romantic language found in literature.
